Creatine is synthesized endogenously in humans, mainly in the liver, kidney, and pancreas, from the amino acids arginine, glycine, and methionine. Skeletal muscle stores much of the body's creatine, where it participates in the phosphocreatine system that buffers adenosine triphosphate during short, intense contractions. Dietary sources include meat and fish, so omnivorous diets provide additional creatine beyond endogenous production. Supplemental creatine monohydrate supplies the same molecule found in food and tissues, not a distinct drug or hormone. Research interest centers on its role in cellular energy transfer and its effects on muscle and other tissues.
Several creatine forms are sold, including monohydrate, anhydrous, hydrochloride, nitrate, citrate, and blends. Once dissolved, these forms deliver creatine, but they differ in molar mass, solubility, counterions, and water content. Creatine monohydrate has the largest body of published human data among these forms. Questions remain about whether any alternative form offers meaningful advantages in absorption, tolerability, or tissue uptake under practical conditions. The hydrate form's lower creatine content by mass is a compositional fact, not a statement about effectiveness.
Regulatory treatment of creatine monohydrate varies by country and intended use. In some jurisdictions it is sold as a dietary supplement, while in others it may be treated as a food ingredient or a pharmaceutical raw material. Pharmacopeial monographs, where available, define identification, assay limits, and impurity thresholds. Manufacturers often follow these monographs or internal specifications to ensure batch-to-batch consistency. Analytical method validation is important because different methods can yield different apparent purity values if sample preparation or detection conditions are not controlled.
Quality control for creatine monohydrate begins with identity confirmation and assay determination. Laboratories commonly use high-performance liquid chromatography with ultraviolet detection, often after derivatization or using a suitable column, to quantify creatine. Karl Fischer titration measures water content, which helps verify the monohydrate stoichiometry. Additional tests screen for heavy metals, residual solvents, and microbial contamination depending on the intended use. These tests establish composition and purity rather than biological effect.
Stability studies examine how creatine monohydrate changes under controlled temperature and humidity. The solid is generally stable when kept dry, but moisture can promote hydrolysis to creatinine, especially in solution or at elevated temperatures. Color, odor, and assay values are monitored over time to detect degradation. Because degradation pathways depend on storage conditions, shelf-life claims should specify the tested packaging, temperature, and humidity. Open questions remain about the long-term behavior of different crystal habits and particle sizes.

In the human body, creatine is synthesized mainly in the liver and kidneys from the amino acids glycine, arginine, and methionine. Dietary sources include meat, fish, and other animal tissues, which supply preformed creatine. Because plant foods contain little or no creatine, dietary intake varies widely among populations. The compound is stored largely in skeletal muscle, where it is converted to phosphocreatine and used to regenerate adenosine triphosphate during short bursts of activity.
Creatine monohydrate is one of several solid forms of creatine described in the literature. Other forms include anhydrous creatine, creatine hydrochloride, and creatine ethyl ester, each with different solubility and stability characteristics. The monohydrate is distinct from creatinine, a spontaneous breakdown compound that forms when creatine loses water and cyclizes. Commercial descriptions sometimes use synonyms such as methylguanidoacetic acid or N-(aminoiminomethyl)-N-methylglycine, which refer to the same base molecule. These names appear in chemical databases and product labels.
Regulatory status varies by country. In the United States, creatine monohydrate is sold as a dietary supplement ingredient, while in the European Union it is placed on the market as a food supplement component. Some jurisdictions have established purity monographs or permitted health claims, while others treat it as a novel food or require notification. Product labels may state the amount of creatine monohydrate or the equivalent creatine content, and the two figures can differ. Independent testing programs sometimes check identity, potency, and contaminant limits.
Creatine monohydrate is stable under dry, cool conditions but can degrade when exposed to moisture and heat. In solution, it undergoes hydrolysis to creatinine, a cyclic derivative with little role in phosphagen energy transfer. The rate of conversion increases with temperature, storage time, and acidic or alkaline pH. Solid material kept in a sealed container at room temperature generally retains its composition for extended periods. Moisture uptake is a primary concern because it can accelerate breakdown and caking.
On 1 May 1989, the American Physical Society held a session on cold fusion in Baltimore, including many reports of experiments that failed to produce evidence of cold fusion. At the end of the session, eight of the nine leading speakers stated that they considered the initial Fleischmann and Pons claim dead, with the ninth, Johann Rafelski, abstaining. Steven E. Koonin of Caltech called the Utah report a result of "the incompetence and delusion of Pons and Fleischmann," which was met with a standing ovation. Douglas R. O. Morrison, a physicist representing CERN, was the first to call the episode an example of pathological science. On 4 May, due to all this new criticism, the meetings with various representatives from Washington were cancelled. From 8 May, only the A&M tritium results kept cold fusion afloat. In July and November 1989, Nature published papers critical of cold fusion claims. Negative results were also published in several other scientific journals including Science, Physical Review Letters, and Physical Review C (nuclear physics). In August 1989, in spite of this trend, the state of Utah invested $4.5 million to create the National Cold Fusion Institute. The United States Department of Energy organized a special panel to review cold fusion theory and research. The panel issued its report in November 1989, concluding that results as of that date did not present convincing evidence that useful sources of energy would result from the phenomena attributed to cold fusion.
Flay served as a judge on Wickedly Perfect, The Next Food Network Star, and The Next Iron Chef. He has cooked on Emeril Live and Paula's Party. On Throwdown! with Bobby Flay, Flay challenges cooks known for a specific dish or type of cooking to a cook-off of their signature dish. Flay was an Iron Chef on the show Iron Chef America. In 2000, when the original Iron Chef show traveled to New York for a special battle, he challenged Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto to battle rock crab. After the hour battle ended, Flay stood on top of his cutting board and raised his arms in what one journalist wrote was "premature victory". As Morimoto felt that real chefs consider cutting boards and knives sacred, and being offended by Flay's flamboyant gesture, he criticized his professionalism, saying that Flay was "not a chef". Flay went on to lose the battle. Flay challenged Morimoto to a rematch in Morimoto's native Japan. This time, Flay won. On a special episode of Iron Chef America originally airing on November 12, 2006, Flay and Giada De Laurentiis faced off against, and were defeated by, Batali and Rachael Ray. This was the highest rated show ever broadcast on Food Network. Flay and Michael Symon defeated the team of Iron Chefs Cat Cora and Masaharu Morimoto in a special episode titled "Thanksgiving Showdown", which originally aired on November 16, 2008. In an episode recorded in July 2010 and broadcast in March 2011, Montreal cooking show host Chuck Hughes beat Flay to become the youngest Canadian champ.
=== Techniques === MRI: Meningeal findings are described with the following characteristics: Nodular meningeal tumor, meningeal thickening >3 mm and a subjectively strong contrast enhancement. A smooth contrast enhancement of the meninges was judged to be typical for inflammatory, nonneoplastic meningitis. CSF cytology: is performed after drawing the CSF by lumbar puncture. Cytogenetic: measures chromosomal content of cells and fluorescence in situ hybridization which detects numerical and structural genetic aberrations as a sign of malignancy. This is especially useful for liquid tumors such as leukemia and lymphoma. Some of the techniques that achieve this are flow cytometry and DNA single-cell cytometry. However, cytogenetic only assist in diagnosis and is less preferred. Meningeal Biopsy: may be performed when all of the above criteria is inconclusive, or if the primary malignancy is unknown. Biopsy is only effective when performed at the region where there's enhancement on the MRI.
=== Hematologic involvement === Hematologic abnormalities are prevalent in MCTD. Mild lymphadenopathy affects 25–50% of patients, and it is frequently an early symptom of the disease. This usually subsides over time; however, it may reappear during flares. Between 50% and 75% of people with MCTD will experience anemia, lymphopenia, or leukopenia. Anemia of chronic disease is the most common type of anemia seen in MCTD. Thrombocytopenia can develop in MCTD but is less common than leukopenia or anemia.
The sharp-nosed pit viper or hundred pacer (Deinagkistrodon acutus) is another Asian species of pitviper that is medically important. This species is considered dangerous, and fatalities are not unusual. According to the U.S. Armed Forces Pest Management Board, the venom is a potent hemotoxin that is strongly hemorrhagic. Bite symptoms include severe local pain and bleeding that may begin almost immediately. This is followed by considerable swelling, blistering, necrosis, and ulceration. Brown (1973) mentions a venom yield of up to 214 mg (dried) and LD50 values of 0.04 mg/kg IV, 4.0 mg/kg IP and 9.2–10.0 mg/kg SC. The envenomation rate is up to 80% and the untreated mortality rate is very low (1–10%). Antivenom is produced in China and Taiwan.

== Powers and abilities == Major Force is coated with the same Dilustel alien alloy that covers Captain Atom. As a result, he also can access the Quantum Field and use its energies for a variety of powers. Cracking or rupturing his Dilustel skin causes Major Force to leak radiation at an uncontrollable rate, to which he runs the risk of atomic detonation. Major Force can project blasts of dark matter and shape the energy into various forms. He initially lacked the ability to fly, but rather leapt great distances or traveled on ramps made of dark matter. Major Force is also able to convert whatever force he comes in contact with, be it matter or energy, into solid dark matter. Major Force possesses immense strength and durability, around the same level as Captain Atom and Superman. Major Force lacks the need for physical sustenance thanks to the Dilustel's connection to the Q-Field, allowing to survive indefinitely without need to eat, sleep, breath or rest, and survive in the vacuum of space. Due to his nature as pure energy, Major Force is functionally immortal. Clifford Zmeck is a military-trained United States Air Force operative. He has vast military connections with the government, Checkmate, Task Force X, and Quorum.
Methylglyoxal (MGO) is the organic compound with the formula CH3C(O)CHO. It is a reduced derivative of pyruvic acid. It is a reactive compound that is implicated in the biology of diabetes. Methylglyoxal is produced industrially by degradation of carbohydrates using overexpressed methylglyoxal synthase.
== Drug design of silanediol == The fact that carbon and silicone have similar, but also dissimilar, characteristics triggered the interest in substituting carbon with silanediol as a central, zinc chelating group. Silicone forms a dialkylsilanediol compound that is sufficiently hindered so the formation of a siloxane polymer does not occur. Silanediols are more stable than carbon diols so they are expected to have longer half-life. Silanediols are also neutral at physiological pH (do not ionize). Four stereoisomers of Phe-Ala silanediol were compared to ketone-based inhibitors and the silanediol were found to be fourfold less potent than the ketone analogue. This is because silanediols are weaker zinc chelators compared with ketones. Replacement of the silanediol, with a methylsilano group gave little enzyme inhibition. This confirms that the silanediol group interacts with ACE as a transition state analogue and the interaction is in a manner similar to that of ketone. If the benzyl group of silanediol is replaced by an i-butyl group it gives a weaker ACE inhibitor. Introduction of a hydrophobic methyl phenyl gives a little more potency than an analogue with a tert-butyl-group at P1. That suggests that methyl phenyl gives a better S1 recognition than a tert-butyl group.
Gas chromatography-olfactometry (GC-O) is a technique that integrates the separation of volatile compounds using a gas chromatograph with the detection of odour using an olfactometer (human assessor). It was first invented and applied in 1964 by Fuller and co-workers. While GC separates volatile compounds from an extract, human olfaction detects the odour activity of each eluting compound. In this olfactometric detection, a human assessor may qualitatively determine whether a compound has odour activity or describe the odour perceived, or quantitatively evaluate the intensity of the odour or the duration of the odour activity. The olfactometric detection of compounds allows the assessment of the relationship between a quantified substance and the human perception of its odour, without instrumental detection limits present in other kinds of detectors. Compound identification still requires use of other detectors, such as mass spectrometry, with analytical standards.

== In transplant rejection == In a transplant procedure, as of an organ or stem cells, MHC molecules themselves act as antigens and can provoke immune response in the recipient, thus causing transplant rejection. MHC molecules were identified and named after their role in transplant rejection between mice of different strains, though it took over 20 years to clarify MHC's role in presenting peptide antigens to cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs). Each human cell expresses six MHC class I alleles (one HLA-A, -B, and -C allele from each parent) and six to eight MHC class II alleles (one HLA-DP and -DQ, and one or two HLA-DR from each parent, and combinations of these). The MHC variation in the human population is high, at least 350 alleles for HLA-A genes, 620 alleles for HLA-B, 400 alleles for DR, and 90 alleles for DQ. Any two individuals who are not identical twins, triplets, or higher order multiple births, will express differing MHC molecules. All MHC molecules can mediate transplant rejection, but HLA-C and HLA-DP, showing low polymorphism, seem least important. When maturing in the thymus, T lymphocytes are selected for their TCR incapacity to recognize self antigens, yet T lymphocytes can react against the donor MHC's peptide-binding groove, the variable region of MHC holding the presented antigen's epitope for recognition by TCR, the matching paratope. T lymphocytes of the recipient take the incompatible peptide-binding groove as nonself antigen. There are various types of transplant rejection that are known to be mediated by MHC (HLA):
On 20 May 2021, in an interview with French magazine Paris Match, Lula confirmed that he was a pre-candidate for the next year's elections. The Workers' Party national committee, on 13 April 2022, approved the nomination of former Governor of São Paulo Geraldo Alckmin (PSB) for vice president. The ticket was officialized on 7 May, in a coalition formed by the Brazil of Hope Federation (formed by Workers' Party, Communist Party of Brazil and Green Party), Brazilian Socialist Party, Solidarity and PSOL REDE Federation. With the withdrawal of André Janones on 4 August, the ticket received official support of Avante and Agir. The campaign was marked by polarization and Manichaeism, in which Lula's campaign tried to characterize him as the only alternative in the second round for those who believed in democracy and human rights, while Bolsonaro sought to associate Lula with communism/socialism and far-left anti-democratic regimes such as Venezuela, Cuba, Bolivia, and Nicaragua. The new government would face a fairly conservative Congress, with many of Bolsonaro's ministers and figures close to Bolsonarism occupying seats in parliament. On 2 October, the day of the first round, Lula placed first with 48.43% of the valid votes, leading to a runoff with Jair Bolsonaro, who garnered 43.20% of the valid votes. Lula was elected in the second round, on 30 October, being the first President of Brazil elect for three terms and the first since Getúlio Vargas to be elected for a non-consecutive term.

Anthony D. "Tony" DiNozzo Jr. (Michael Weatherly) is a former NCIS Senior Field Special Agent and former homicide detective for the Baltimore, Philadelphia and Peoria Police Departments. Like Gibbs, he has limited patience for the scientific method and technical terms. DiNozzo is known for his seemingly-endless film references; Ziva insists that his dying words will be "I've seen this film". He attended Ohio State University as a physical education major and was a member of the "Alpha Chi Delta" fraternity, class of 1989. DiNozzo is said to have played varsity college basketball, "running the point for Ohio State" according to Abby. It is mentioned in the season three episode "Kill Ari (Part I)" that he comes from a wealthy family but has been cut off by his father, Anthony DiNozzo Sr (played by Robert Wagner who in turn was played by Weatherly in a TV movie). DiNozzo's mother was over-protective and she "dressed him like a sailor until he was ten". ("Frame Up") DiNozzo is a flirt, and has a fondness for playing pranks on his co-workers, sometimes with little respect for their boundaries. During the course of season four, he goes on an undercover assignment (per orders of the Director of NCIS, Jenny Shepard), the key mission being to find arms dealer La Grenouille (Rene Benoit) by posing as his daughter's (Jeanne Benoit's) boyfriend Anthony DiNardo a college professor. In the episode "Knockout", he reveals that he is not doing well with women and that he is still hurting from his relationship with former girlfriend Jeanne Benoit.
== Release == An error on the Steam store page for the Valve Index listed a release date of 15 June 2019 initially. The headset eventually released on 28 June 2019, priced at US$999 for the full kit containing the headset itself, Knuckles controllers and tracking sensors. The Valve Index sold an estimated 149,000 sets in 2019. 103,000 were in the fourth quarter following the announcement of Valve's flagship VR game, Half-Life: Alyx, which was made free to Index owners, so that they could get the best possible experience with the title, whilst also giving access to limited time exclusive content in-game. The sudden demand caused the unit to be sold out in all 31 countries except Japan in January 2020. While Valve had anticipated supply for many of those that had ordered the Index in time for the March 2020 release of Half-Life: Alyx, the COVID-19 pandemic slowed production, which left Valve with a reduced number of units available on the release date. As of January 2025, 13.2% of the VR units connected to Steam are Valve Index sets.

It is the hydrated crystalline form of creatine, containing one bound water molecule per creatine unit. The compound is commonly used as a nutritional ingredient and as a research material.
Yes, endogenous synthesis occurs mainly in the liver, kidney, and pancreas. Meat and fish also contribute creatine to the diet.
Other forms contain creatine paired with different counterions or lacking water, so their mass and solubility differ. After dissolution, creatine itself is the shared active molecule.
Karl Fischer titration is a standard method for measuring water content in solid and liquid samples. The result helps confirm the expected monohydrate stoichiometry. Loss-on-drying can also indicate moisture but may not distinguish water from other volatile substances.
